Cryosurgery can be used to remove small skin masses. A specially designed surgical instrument is used to apply Nitrous Oxide directly to abnormal tissue causing the cells to freeze. When the abnormal tissue is subjected to cycles of freezing and thawing an inflammatory cascade is set off, leading to the destruction of the abnormal tissue. The procedure is fast, painless, and results in destruction of the abnormal tissue within 10 to 14 days of treatment. Cryosurgery is done without the need for anesthesia, making this a cost effective procedure, ideal for the removal of small, benign growths in older or compromised patients.
